I’m not sure what species this little cuties is. Maybe a rat snake or corn snake? Either way, they were way too gorgeous not to paint! I was anxious about adding the black background, so I snapped some photos and did a digital mock-up before going through with it. I’m really pleased with how the black gives the snake a neon glow!
This is also the largest piece I’ve ever painted. It’s 30×22″ (my usually large pieces are 8×10″ or 9×12″), and it was quite the learning piece. I definitely needed the scale texture to hide some of my clumsy washes haha
