One more 3d printed idea I’ve been toying with is coasters. It’s been a real challenge to find the right level of details to show well at this size. The 3d aspect actually obscures the image a bit by casting shadows. I’m also playing with different filament colours to add a bit more interest and contrast. I think I’m on the right track with this guy, but there’s definitely more experimenting to be done!

Playing around with modelling and 3d printing some more. This is a fox planter I designed for my husband’s birthday. (He really loves foxes.)
I learned so much with this design! It was very tricking figuring out how to render fur without over-rendering it, which is something I struggle with when painting, too. The inks I used for painting the details also applied a bit patchy, so I’ll try a more wet-on-wet painting style next time or use a fully opaque paint. Despite the flaws, I’m very proud of this piece!

Dipping back into 3d printing, I’m extremely proud of these opossum planters! I used Nomad Sculpt to design them. They’re probably my 5th design in that program, and it’s pretty intuitive! I printed these little guys in rainbow filament, primed the bits I wanted coloured with transparent watercolour ground, and then painted them with India ink. I like how the semi-transparency helps the painted colours feel more integrated and natural.

I don’t often do fan art, but when I do, it’s because the og is overwhelmingly awesome! These little grubbies are the baby, but still merciless, form of an alien race bent on taking over the world! Or at least parts of it. But not all the little grubs are as sold on world domination as the rest. They’re the main antagonists in the current story in my friend, Dave’s, anthology, Azure Claw Comics.
Azure Claw Comics’ current story revolves around an alien lobster girl, Azzura Silverstar, and is a throwback to video games and comics of the 90s. If you like gritty – but not grimdark – sci-fi comics, be sure to check out Dave’s comics here:

Here’s a new sticker pack to ring in Spring! And what could be more springy than hippos??
I’m really pleased with how these guys came out. Mid-tone animals without markings are usually really difficult for me to rainbow-ify, but I think this set looks really nice together!
