Hippo sticker 4 of 5, a round friend having a swim! Or maybe this is how hippos garden? I’d like to imagine an underwater hippo garden with a carefully composed lilypad ceiling to create the perfect midday light.
It’s time for another sticker design! Here’s a grumpy little hippo, because hippos are probably the world’s grumpiest animal. Everyone feels grump sometimes, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less loveable! Just ask before giving them a little squeeze.
Here’s my newest sticker design, and my newest tutorial topic: A swimming hippo! I have the full, real-time tutorial version of this painting available on my Ko-fi and Patreon pages. There’s also a shorter version with less technical knowledge, but an added discussion about how I find inspiration, over on YouTube!
Here’s the first sticker for my next watercolour sticker pack: A hippo being extra cute! You guys know I loooooove pink and yellow together and squishy animals, so this is really just the ideal sticker design for me haha! I’m really pleased with how this came out; it feels very soft and friendly.
Here’s this year’s freebie sticker! One of these gets sent out with every order through my website or Etsy shop. This is pretty much the only time I get to paint Tarts, the bobtail squid, but it’s always super fun. I love this little guy.
There are two versions of this little guy. The top one is actually the second one I painted and the final design I ended up printing. I tried to focus on keeping the piece feeling watercolour-y and light, which is something I really struggle with when painting purples and blues. The bottom painting is the first version I painted. I was experimenting with using more realistic colours for the cherries to help Tart’s slight rainbow gradient pop, but it just felt too dark to me.
Here’s our final sticker pack for this year: Canadian Seals! This pack contains rainbow stickers of all 6 true seals found in Canada.
I’m really proud of this pack. I think the scope of colours is really nice, and all the seals look great together. I also tried to really push myself to simplify their shapes and make them all feel squishy and friendly. I hope you enjoy them, too!
Here’s the final design for my Canadian seals sticker pack! This little guy is a hooded seal. I think you can see where they get their name. Their little hoods actually contain an air bladder that they inflate like a frog inflates it’s throat. Except with the seal, the bladder inflates out their nose! So cool!
I’ll be releasing this finished sticker pack in the next day or so. Keep an eye out for it!
Next up in our Canadian seals sticker pack is the harbour seal! Harbour seals are the second smallest seals, just a bit bigger than ringed seals, and are pretty common in southern NB. I feel like these little guys are some of the most charismatic seals, because we see them so often around beaches up here.
I went with a cool colour palette for this little guy to emphasise their silver-grey patterning. I think they’ll pop really well against the warm colours of the ringed, grey, and bearded seal designs in this set.
Finally, another sticker design for this month’s sticker pack: A bearded seal!
Bearded seals are kind of plain looking; brown or grey evenly all over. Except they have the most amazing whiskers! They may be my favourite species of Canadian seal just because their whiskers are so dramatic and fun. The pups are also pretty funny looking; they remind me of old dogs with those dramatic grey eyebrows and muzzles. I’d love to paint one of those little guys some day.
A fresh take on the seal of approval pun so popular among seal merch makers: The gay seal of approval! Or the seal of gay approval. OR the seal of gay AND approval. Either way, you can’t lose!
My scanner destroyed the oranges and yellows on this, as usual, so I touched them up digitally. The sticker actually looks closer to the original than the scan.
I’m also sending out a special holofoil version of this guy in addition to the monthly stickers over on Ko-fi. Be sure to sign up for the sticker tier any time this month if you want this bonus sticker!
