New 2024 Fox Rug Design!

Coming off the back of the mini fox rugs, here’s the full sized version! This guy is around 30” across, and I used the same pattern as my smol foxes. This guy was a breath of fresh air to work on. The big blocks of colour are so satisfying to tuft out, and I got some great practice carving the shapes to clean them up!

New Mini Fox Rugs Design

It’s pretty much an unspoken rule in our house that, if I create a cat piece, I need to create a fox piece to balance it out. So please enjoy these mini fox rugs! The one on the right feels especially puffy somehow, despite being the same design haha.

Medium Fox Rug

Here’s another design that I feel really fits as a rug! My husband absolutely loves foxes, and I find myself making a lot of different fox designs. It doesn’t hurt that foxes are quite charming.

Each fox design I use is unique, and these two little guys are the only rugs I’ll be making from this design. Please be sure to check them out at the Capital Art Sale!

The Capital Art Sale is taking place May 9-12 at the Capital Exhibit Centre!

3d Printed Fox Coaster

One more 3d printed idea I’ve been toying with is coasters. It’s been a real challenge to find the right level of details to show well at this size. The 3d aspect actually obscures the image a bit by casting shadows. I’m also playing with different filament colours to add a bit more interest and contrast. I think I’m on the right track with this guy, but there’s definitely more experimenting to be done!

New 3D Printed Design – Fox Planter!

Playing around with modelling and 3d printing some more. This is a fox planter I designed for my husband’s birthday. (He really loves foxes.)

I learned so much with this design! It was very tricking figuring out how to render fur without over-rendering it, which is something I struggle with when painting, too. The inks I used for painting the details also applied a bit patchy, so I’ll try a more wet-on-wet painting style next time or use a fully opaque paint. Despite the flaws, I’m very proud of this piece!

New Medium Sized Rugs! Foxes!

Here’s a new smaller fox rug design! I’ve used this design for a pair of larger rugs, but this is their premier as medium rugs. The little tongues and noses were a bit of a challenge at this size, but I think they turned out pretty well!
Do you prefer the classic orange fox or the more flamboyant silver fox design?

Mini Fox Rugs

New to the mini rug family, here are some foxes! I based this design on my 2021 large fox rugs (the 2022 has more detail and I didn’t think it’d scale down as well), and I’m pretty happy with them! I really love representing both red and silver foxes. I should do a cross fox some time if I remember haha!
I went with green eyes for these guys again. I think they work really well for the orange foxes and feel more natural than blue, but I kinda wish I’d gone with orange eyes on the blue foxes to maximise their foxiness.

Small Blue and Orange Fox Rugs

Here are two little fox friends I created for the Capital Art Sale! I used the same design for these little guys as my newest, large fox rug; and I think it translated really nicely!

Be sure to come see these little guys, and their big fox friend, in person at the Capital Art Sale, happening May 17th to May 21st at 1400 Prospect St, in the Uptown Sobeys Plaza in Fredericton!

Lon in Space

It was my husband’s birthday earlier this month, and he requested a piece of his fox character, Lon, diving. Foxes diving is so hilarious; it really exemplifies “dogs acting like cats.”

I’ve been too sick this month to paint anything besides this piece (which is just part of being chronically ill), but I’m slowly chipping away at the video tutorial. I’ve invested in some new equipment that should, hopefully, make creating the next tutorial faster.

Fox on Wood 2022

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve painted on wood. It’s such a unique painting experience with the watercolours; they really react so differently with the watercolour ground.

I wanted to create a wispy, kind of celestial feeling with this little fox. This was my first time using salt with my watercolours, and I find the result really interesting and fun. Definitely something I plan to keep playing around with in the future.

This original painting, and exactly two prints, are available at the Capital Art Sale running December 7-10 at 1111 Regent St. Watercolour always looks way better in person, so I definitely encourage you to check it out if you can!
