Hen Planter

Delving back into 3d printing, here’s a little hen planter! I had a mighty craving to make a chicken, so I did. This guy is printed very, very small (about 3”) which is why it doesn’t seem super smooth. (You’ll have to trust me that it FEELS very smooth.) I’m running out of space to store larger 3d prints!

I really enjoy making these little 3d models, but I don’t really like collecting too many knick knacks. That’s why I convert them all into planters. (I have… so many plants. So. Many.) But I might paint up a few of these guys and release them as desk pets on Etsy. Would you be interested in seeing any of my 3d designs as regular figures instead of planters?

3D Printed Seal Coin Bank and Planter

Swinging back to 3D, I was in need of a place to keep spare change, and decided to create a seal coin bank. I just cannot resist their squishy shape! It was pretty tricky to get the hollow shape and twist-off plug with Nomad Sculpt, but it worked out in the end. And of course, once I had the model, I couldn’t resist making a planter version!

I tried a new filament with this planter, and it doesn’t transition between the colours quite as well. I also used resin for the bank seal’s eyes and painted the planter seal’s eyes without adding resin. Which look do you prefer?

New 3D Printed Design – Fox Planter!

Playing around with modelling and 3d printing some more. This is a fox planter I designed for my husband’s birthday. (He really loves foxes.)

I learned so much with this design! It was very tricking figuring out how to render fur without over-rendering it, which is something I struggle with when painting, too. The inks I used for painting the details also applied a bit patchy, so I’ll try a more wet-on-wet painting style next time or use a fully opaque paint. Despite the flaws, I’m very proud of this piece!

New Planter Design! 3d Printed Rainbow Opossum Planters!

Dipping back into 3d printing, I’m extremely proud of these opossum planters! I used Nomad Sculpt to design them. They’re probably my 5th design in that program, and it’s pretty intuitive! I printed these little guys in rainbow filament, primed the bits I wanted coloured with transparent watercolour ground, and then painted them with India ink. I like how the semi-transparency helps the painted colours feel more integrated and natural.

These two planters will be available at the Capital Art Sale in May!
