New Tutorial: Paint the Rainbow! Painting a White Cat with Vivid Colours in Watercolour

I’ve just published my newest class on Skillshare: Paint the Rainbow! Painting a White Cat with Vivid Colours in Watercolour

This class is all about how to maximize the colour and vibrancy while keeping your subject retaining their bright white appearance. This is a tricky balance to strike, and I hope this tutorial is useful!

As usual, this tutorial is available on my Patreon and Ko-fi accounts for anyone on the Lil Squishy tier and above.

Screm Pacman Frog

Pacman frogs are such charismatic little guys!

I couldn’t leave these dramatic little blob friends out of the screm pin collection. (I mean, their name literally comes from them having little, round bodies and huge mouths.) I’m not even sure I exaggerated this guy at all… The whole species is pretty much a cartoon character.

New Pin Design Sneak Peek! Screm Space Kitty

When you scream into the void and the void screams back!

This space kitty’s pose is heavily inspired by my cat, Sparc, at breakfast time. I created this little galaxy kitty to be part of a screm pin collection, which should be available soon.

Shadow Nap Watercolour Cat Painting

I’ve had a ton of fun working on all the rugs lately, but it feels so good to get back to painting! I painted this gorgeous tabby cat to practise with edges and balancing structured fur texture with loose painting. I think I could have pushed the contrast in the body a little more, but I enjoy the fuzziness and didn’t want to risk covering it up too much. Definitely gotta experiment more with fuzzy, out of focus subjects!

This piece is available for sale TODAY at the Capital Art Sale!

Medium Tabby Cat Rugs

These tabby cats are the last batch of small rugs I created for the Capital Art Sale. They’re based off my Tubby Tabby design that’s now part of Isaac’s Way’s charity auction. You can check out the large version here: https://isaacsway.ca/art/

I love seeing the difference between large and small rugs of the same design. I rarely reuse designs, but it’s always interesting to see how the simplified version compares to the larger piece

The Capital Art Sale is taking place May 9-12 at the Capital Exhibit Centre!

Australian Shepherd Small Rugs

Rug tufting somehow seems like the perfect medium for these fluffy Aussies. Creating these guys was a real treat. I love tufting tri coloured animals and animals with complex markings. Aussies are also just super charming dogs. They were the most common breed I worked with when I was a dog trainer, and they really have a great sense of humour.

These little Australian shepherd rugs will be available at the Capital Art Sale! These two are the only time I’ll be using this design, so if you want one, please be sure to grab them while they’re available.

Boxer Dog Rug

I created this silly boxer rug for the Capital Art Sale next week!

Boxers have such jovial personalities. I tried to capture a little bit of that in this rug. Defining the mouth was a real challenge, but I think it turned out pretty readable. I also experimented with adding both mid-tone cool colours (blue, purple, green) to define the main dark colours, and actual darker warm tones as extra shadows. I think it adds an interesting bit of depth, but what do you think?

One of a Kind! Siamese Cat Rug

I designed this goofy Siamese kitty rug to display at the Capital Art Sale here in Fredericton, NB!

It was a real design challenge to create enough contrast in this design. Tabby stripes are easy to make pop, but the sometimes subtle shift of the Siamese points don’t feel nearly as dramatic. I’d like to play with some different shading techniques eventually, but I’m happy with how this cutie turned out.

New Charity Auction: Tubby Tabby Rug

This meat-headed tabby boy is my latest rug for Isaac’s Way’s charity auction!

As usual, I had a ton of fun tufting this guy. Stripes are just so satisfying to render out, with their strong pop of contrast.

This 30” kitty rug is up for auction at Isaac’s Way! You can swing by to bid in person (and grab something delicious to eat) or bid on their website or Facebook pages.
