Medium Tiger Rugs

rug tufting, wildlife art / / / , , ,

Tigers are my second favourite wild cats and my favourite big cats. They’re so charismatic and majestic! These little rugs are about 15” across, and the tiger’s detailed pattern is fun to simplify at this smaller rug size. The colour contrast really helps these rugs pop despite their smaller size.

These small tiger rugs are available at the Capital Art Sale! Be sure to swing by and see them in person. And check out all the other amazing work by local artists!

The Capital Art Sale is taking place May 9-12 at the Capital Exhibit Centre!

One of a Kind! Siamese Cat Rug

pet portrait, rug tufting / / / , ,

I designed this goofy Siamese kitty rug to display at the Capital Art Sale here in Fredericton, NB!

It was a real design challenge to create enough contrast in this design. Tabby stripes are easy to make pop, but the sometimes subtle shift of the Siamese points don’t feel nearly as dramatic. I’d like to play with some different shading techniques eventually, but I’m happy with how this cutie turned out.

pet portrait, rug tufting / / / , ,

This meat-headed tabby boy is my latest rug for Isaac’s Way’s charity auction!

As usual, I had a ton of fun tufting this guy. Stripes are just so satisfying to render out, with their strong pop of contrast.

This 30” kitty rug is up for auction at Isaac’s Way! You can swing by to bid in person (and grab something delicious to eat) or bid on their website or Facebook pages.

Holographic Space Cat Sticker

pet portrait, stickers / / / , ,

It’s been a little while, so here’s a new stand alone sticker design: A space kitty!

This little friend is printed on holographic vinyl, and the stars shine rainbow in the light. I had a lot of fun playing with the negative space to maximise the impact of the holographic effect.

You can find these guys on my Etsy Shop: https://squidtartsart.etsy.com/ca/listing/1697827008/holographic-galaxy-space-cat-vinyl

Trixie the Tabby Watercolour Portrait

pet portrait, watercolor, watercolour / / / , , ,

Happy holidays, everyone! I hope you’ve found some time to relax and are looking forward to the New Year. I’d like to make a goals post discussing my plans for next year, but in the meantime, please enjoy this kitty painting!

This lovely little lady is Trixie. She was commissioned as a commemorative piece by one of my close friends. I experimented a bit with pushing the detail in the face and letting the body fade out for a wispy, dream-like feeling, and I really like how it turned out. Most importantly, Trixie’s person likes it, too!

Last Batch of Tabby Mini Rugs!

pet portrait, rug tufting / / / , ,

More mini rugs! This time adult tabby cats. I was planning on making these guys calicos, but the tiny rug size was too intimating for me haha. Tabbies are my favourite kitties, so I hope you’re not too bored seeing them again and again.

Once again, these 7″ rugs are available at the Capital Art Sale! Check it out before the sale ends Sunday!

Leopard Rug and Art Sale!

rug tufting, wildlife art / / / , , ,

Here’s my latest big rug design: A leopard! I had so much fun with my tiger design last year that I wanted to do another big cat. Leopards are so gorgeous and elegant! Definitely one of my top favourite wild cats.
I went with a lighter green-blue-purple gradient for the stripes to really emphasise the colours. I find going too dark with the pattern tends to wash out the overall colours of the rug.

This rug will be available at the Capital Art Sale at 1150 Prospect St starting Wednesday, November 29th! Please feel free to swing by and see it in person, and check out all the other amazing art by local artists while you’re there!

New Design! Medium Tabby Kitten Rugs

pet portrait, rug tufting / / / , ,

Another new design for a well-loved subject: Tabby kittens! Most of my tabby designs are based on my two ginger cats, but this one is based on a kitten I saw at the local cat cafe, Purrfect Cup.
I love how kittens have cartoonishly large ears and eyes. They’re so goofy and charming.

Mini Cat Rugs

Here’s the new design for my tabby cat rugs for this year: Tabby kittens!
I love how kittens have absurdly big ears. I usually exaggerate the ears and eyes a bit for my designs, but definitely didn’t need to this time haha! I’m testing out green eyes for both the orange and blue colourways (usually I used blue eyes on orange and orange eyes on blue). What do you think?
